Abstract

A new highly fluorescence and sensitive fluorescent probe 4-(1-(4-methoxyphenyl)-4,5-diphenyl-1H-imidazol-2-yl)-N,N-diphenylaniline (MID) was prepared for the monitoring the mercury (II) ions with fluorometric behaviour in environmental samples. A significant fluorescence quenching was observed with MID in association with Hg2+ ions. MID can detect quiet low concentration of Hg2+ ions. The structure of MID was confirmed by 1H-NMR, 13C-NMR and mass spectrometry. However, the association of and complexation of MID with Hg2+ ions analysed by Job’s plot titration and graph, the results revealed 2:1 ratio of MID with Hg2+ ions. Furthermore, the probe MID respond rapidly, and shows promising candidate for the selective recognition of Hg2+ ions in real samples.
